Originally financed by the Rev William Cartwright and built in 1860 as a school for “the education of the labouring and other poorer class in the Parish of Butcombe”, the now Village Hall was generously given by Rev Cartwright’s descendants to the people of the Parish in 1952.
Butcombe Village Hall has been described as an ‘intimate, friendly’ venue and is great for a variety of functions and classes. Being located next to the Church it is the focal point for village or private events and has seen wedding receptions, corporate events, quiz nights, dinner, parties, yoga, jubilee celebrations, meetings, pilates, NCT, theatrical events and much more.
The Hall benefitted from a refurbishment in 2015 that included a modern, well-equipped kitchen. The Hall can seat 60 for dining with a maximum of 100 people in the Hall at any one event (seated guest numbers can be increased with the use of a marquee). There is a small carpeted room off to the rear and a room to the side adjacent to the kitchen. There are stage lights in the main hall and staging is also available. Outside areas are lawned.
